The show, Mythbusters, has been a favorite of mine for many years now.  Being an engineer, I have always found their experiments to be quite interesting.  Now that I work in crash safety, this episode appealed to me even more so.  The guys decided to test out the myth that when two cars traveling at 50 mph each hit head on, the forces are equivalent to one car hitting an immovable object at 100 mph.  The results?  Check out the two part video to find out!

GM shows some of what it takes to build up a crash test dummy

People constantly complain about how heavy today’s cars are, how much more expensive they are and how long they take to develop.  Well the video above shows you one of the reasons why: safety.  Today’s cars are safer than ever before, thanks to ABS, stability control, airbags, side air bags, air curtains and so much more.  The dummy build up video from General Motors shows you just some of the work required to prep these guys (and gals) for a crash.

I think this video is a really creative way of showing people what’s at stake if you chose to drive without wearing your seatbelt.  Please, take the 2 seconds and put on your seatbelt!
