The commercial above shows that GM (and America) are still building rockets. Hopefully someday I will be able to afford the rocket you see in the video. That would be the 2011 Corvette ZR1, and man does it rip!
First 2011 Corvette celebrates Le Mans win and helps out a charity too!
It was in 1960 that Chevrolet celebrated a class win at the 24 hours of Le Mans in a Corvette. 50 years later, GM has decided to decorate the very first production 2011 Corvette in colors matching the car that won at Le Mans. The car will be up for a tax-deductible charity donation of around $385,000. For more details and great shots of the car, head on over to CorvetteBlogger.com.

The National Corvette Museum (NCM) is considered to be the largest of its kind, devoted to a single model – the Corvette, and is located adjacent to General Motors’ Corvette assembly plant. NCM is planning on building a fully featured race complex, consisting of two road courses, a kart track, a ten-acre autocross course, a skid-pad training area, and a quarter-mile drag strip. The track will be built to FIA and SCCA specifications, meaning that official racing events will take place there.
The newly planned development would be situated across freeway I65 from the museum. Access to the park will be via a tunnel and bridges going over the freeway.

General Motors has decided to release a bunch of new Corvette variants in order to keep customers happy. Last year we saw the revival of the Grand Sport nameplate. For 2011, Chevrolet is releasing 500 units labeled the Z06 Carbon. This is basically a Z06 body on a ZR1 chassis, with carbon fiber body components thrown in to save weight. The hood is the lightest ever featured on a Corvette they say, but it won’t fit on a ZR1 because of its inner structure. For more details, head on over to Autoblog.

Sales of the Cadillacs and Corvettes to resume in Europe!

General Motors has had a rough go at it these past few years. What with the need for government bailouts and then filing for bankruptcy, things haven’t been harder really. On top of that, GM’s distributor for Cadillacs and Corvettes in Europe went bust, meaning those cars haven’t been available in Europe for almost a year. Well it now appears that GM has corrected that issue, reportedly in talks with about 30 dealerships around Europe to bring over the entire Corvette lineup, as well as the Cadillac CTS (coupe, sedan and wagon,) Escalade, CTS-V and SRX. No word on pricing or availability yet, so stay tuned for more. Until then, head on over to Autoblog.
