At the Chicago Auto Show, General Motors decided to put up an exhibit to try and explain direct injection to people in terms they could easily understand.  They had a clear engine built so that you could see the different events of an engine taking place!  For more great photos, head on over to Autoblog!

GM shows off the Diamond Edition Suburban and new Silverado HD

Chevrolet Suburban Diamond Edition 9

General Motors didn’t have much to show at the Chicago Auto Show, but what they did show was pretty nice.  The only two product introductions came from Chevrolet and both were on the truck side of the business.  The first new product that they rolled out was a Diamond Edition Suburban.  This special trim package was to celebrate 75 continuous years of production of the Suburban nameplate, making it the longest running in the business.  The package includes special 20 inch chrome wheels, chrome diamond mesh grille, cashmere colored interior and “Diamond Edition” embroidery on the headrests.  There are also special 75th anniversary badges on the outside and on the steering wheel cover.

2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD 7

The second product brought out is much more significant than the D.E. ‘burb.  This was the new 2011 Silverado Heavy Duty.  The new HD features a fully boxed frame for increased torsional stiffness (by a magnitude of 5) and an upgraded front suspension that is now rated for over 6,000 pounds.  Towing capacity is up to 20,000 lbs and max payload has jumped to 6,335 lbs.  For more shots of these two beasts, head on over to our gallery.

The Jeep Ride Experience 16

I have been to quite a few auto shows this past year or so, and until now, few displays have really allowed car fans to check out an automobile doing what it does best…driving.  That is until I saw the display that Jeep had set up at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show.  The marketing folks at Jeep had set up a test course that allowed drivers to take auto show passengers across 5 events that were designed to show the Trail Rated Rubicon skills.  The events showed off the Jeep’s ground clearance, traction ability, body strength, suspension and articulation and boy did the Jeep come through!  I have never been a fan of Jeep’s products but seeing them in action gave me a whole new respect for their abilities.  For more shots of this event, check out my sorta-mixed-up gallery!

GM’s new 6.6L Duramax diesel to run on B20 fuel

6.6L Duramax

For those of you who don’t know, B20 is a fuel made from mixing 20% bio-diesel with 80% petrol diesel.  The thinking behind this fuel is that the bio-diesel portion comes from mostly renewable resources, making it a greener alternative to regular petrol diesel.  Why the mixture?  Well most diesel engines wouldn’t run on straight bio-diesel but work is progressing in those areas to overcome the obstacles associated with running bio-diesel.

Starting this Spring, General Motor’s new 6.6L Duramax diesel will be B20 capable.  For more information and news from the Chicago Auto Show check us out later in the week or head on over to Autoblog.

2010 Dodge Ram Laramie

In the past week, Chrysler has released information on special edition Jeeps, Dodges, and Chryslers, but I never stopped to think about Chrysler’s newest brand, Ram.  Will the Ram be getting new models too?  Well, according to PickupTrucks.com, Chrysler has two names trademarked that haven’t been mentioned yet, and those names are Laramie Prospector and Laramie Western Sky.  They believe these models will be released at next month’s Chicago Auto Show.  I guess only time will tell, so stay tuned for the latest from Truth About Domestics.
