General Motors gives the Chevrolet Spark a go for North America?

Chevrolet Spark

GM has apparently given the Chevrolet Beat as it is known around the world the go-ahead for North American sales.  Does that mean the car is coming to the U.S.?  Who really knows at this point, but GM spokespeople have stated in the past that the car was designed with United States regulations in mind.  Gas prices are predicted to rise, so a smaller car in Chevrolet’s lineup makes perfect sense.  For more details, head on over to Autoblog.

Chevrolet Spark

If things go well enough in the near term for GM, then we might see a version of the Spark here on our side of the pond.  This car has been on-again/off-again and it appears that it might now be in the near term.  The engine choices will offer up to 47 mpg and you can even get a “Big Gulp” cup holder!  If it does make an appearance here, it would be competing against the 2011 Ford Fiesta.  For more details, head on over to Autoblog.

GM has named three locations in a press release as possible sites for production of a new b-car.  While the car has not been named, speculation is that it will be the 2010 Chevrolet Spark or the “Viva” hatchback that has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring.  The locations listed are Orion, Michigan (currently a shuttered G6 plant), Spring Hill, Tennessee (former home of Saturn), and Janesville, Wisconsin (former GMC Yukon/Chevy Tahoe plant.)

For more details head on over to Autoblog.

2010 Chevrolet Spark

Chevrolet has set up a lounge in the outer concourse of the Geneva International Airport for media members, and in it they have placed a production version of the 2010 Chevrolet Spark.  The Spark will be GM’s newest entrant into the B-sized car segment and is promised to return 47 mpg in the U.S. on combined cycle testing.  So while the car doesn’t go on sale anytime soon, head on over to Autoblog to check it out, or see it in theatres this summer in the new Transformers movie.
