Chevrolet Caprice coming back to the States as a crime fighter!

This coming Spring, detectives will have a new choice when it comes to available pursuit vehicles.  General Motors has just announced that the Chevrolet Caprice police vehicle will be on sale April 2011.  The full blown police package won’t be available until June 2011, but I’m sure it will be worth the wait.  Check out the video and let us know what you think in the comments!

The most common car used by the fuzz is the Ford Crown Victoria.  They are everywhere on the roads today, however, that car is on a platform that is close to twice my age.  So law enforcement has been looking for a replacement for years and now it appears that the competition for their business is heating up.  The one car currently on the road is the Dodge Charger.  The up and coming contenders are the Chevrolet Caprice and the new Ford Police Interceptor.  Well the gang at Autoblog has put together a comparison chart to see how the 4 police prepped vehicles stack up against one another.  For more details, head on over to Autoblog.

2009 Chevrolet Caprice

We have all heard that GM will begin selling a law enforcement version of the foreign market Chevrolet Caprice here in the next few years but sadly they have stated there will be no public offering of this vehicle.  Well according to Bob Lutz, there is a chance we might see a civilian version of the Caprice as a “high-end Chevrolet.”  Interesting!  Lutz also goes on to say that the vehicle would be thought of as a “four-door Corvette.”  Nice!  Please do!  For more, head on over to Autoblog.  Or read what the Aussies have to say on the matter here.

Rumor has it that the United States of America (God bless her) could be getting a rear-wheel drive model based off the Holden platform from Australia!  Where does this news come from?  Why a Pontiac G8 forum of course!  According to a dealer publication, there are several fixes coming in for the 2011.5 model year Chevrolet Caprice police interceptor and also for the 2012 Chevy SS.  That sounds like proof positive that some form of this car is headed our way!  For more on this, click on over to G8board.com.

Looks like the Pontiac G8 may not be completely dead here in the U.S.  According to Fritz Henderson, GM is reviewing the possibility of bringing a foreign market version of the G8, known as the Chevrolet Caprice, here as a police offering to replace the current front wheel drive Impala.

For more from Fritz, head on over to Autoblog.
