2011 Buick Regal

General Motors has announced that production of the Camaro convertible and the 2011 Buick Regal will start in the first quarter of 2011.  The Regal goes on sale this summer, with the initial units being shipped in from Germany until production can commence here in North America.  The Camaro convertible joins the hot selling Camaro coupe when it goes on sale early next year.  The addition of these two cars brings about 700 jobs back to the Oshawa, Ontario assembly plant that builds the Camaro now.  For more details, head on over to Autoblog.

The 2010 Camaro has been a pretty big hit for GM and it appears that the convertible is coming along nicely to help carry sales next year.  For now, enjoy this spy shot, courtesy of Jalopnik.  Let us know what you think in the comments!

Chevrolet Camaro convertible concept

General Motors has decided to go ahead with production of the Camaro convertible.  They predict that around 20,000 units will be sold every year.  The only problem is where to build the new drop top when production time comes around in early 2011.  The answer to GM’s problem is Magna.  Yes, the very same Magna that tried to buy Opel in Europe.  Magna will build the Camaro convertibles at GM’s Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  For more details, head on over to Autoblog.

2011 Chevrolet Camaro convertible

In an interesting bit of news, General Motors announced that the 2011 Buick Regal would be entering production in early 2011 at the Oshawa assembly plant in Ontario.  Then they slipped in a bit of news that the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro convertible would also be starting production at that time.  Say what!?  The Mustang will finally have some drop top muscle car competition and that can’t be bad for sales.  For more, head on over to Autoblog.

It will be at least a year before the production version of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro convertible makes its debut, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait till then to own one.  How’s that possible you might be asking?  Simple, Drop Top Customs from sunny Florida will make you one from your Camaro coupe for the low, low, low price of $18,000!  Check out the video below for more information on how they complete this rather nice looking transformation, on a Dodge Challenger.

For a full gallery of the completed product, head on over to Autoblog.

While I’m not normally a fan of how a car looks with its convertible top up, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro (which will be a 2011 when the convertible arrives) actually looks pretty good.  The roof line doesn’t look as awkward as some of the aftermarket kits that I have seen.  Head on over to Camaro5 for the original shots.

Chevrolet Camaro convertible concept (GM)

Depending on what hour you read the rumors floating around on the Internet, you might get some mixed signals on the convertible production version of the 2010 Camaro coupe.  Well, according to Moter Trend, the rag top is back on, and is set to debut as a 2012 model (on sale first quarter of 2011.)  This is the complete opposite from rumors a few weeks back that stated the car was on hold indefinitely due to GM’s German convertible top maker going belly up.  Apparently the true story is that GM and the supplier reached an agreement, and will begin working on tops again.

I really hope these reports are true, as I think the convertible Camaro is a very attractive alternative, and will give cars like the Nissan 370Z a run for their money.

Chevrolet Camaro convertible

A picture has surfaced of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro in convertible guise outside of the Oshawa, Ontario assembly plant where the coupes are being built.  Head on over to GMInsideNews for more on the story.

Hopefully GM survives long enough to put this car into production, as I think it looks almost as good as the coupe does.  This would really give the Mustang convertible a run for it’s money.  I’m glad I’m not alone in thinking that it’s a good thing the Muscle car wars are back on!
