2011 Buick Regal commercial shows off a little of what it’s made of
I have been waiting for the new Buick Regal to hit our shores and the time has finally come. Above is the first commercial for the new Regal, and it does a nice job of showing off the car. Hopefully people will buy the fact that its “German” engineering means it’s a high quality car, but only time (and sales) will tell.
As Buick looks for younger buyers, could a coupe be in the works!?

Apparently in an interview with Automotive News, John Cafaro, the director of design for Buick and Chevrolet, said that what the brand needs now is more expressive vehicles. Cafaro thinks that it is his job to really push for a more youthful image for Buick and part of that transformation could involve a new coupe! For the logistics behind this pipe dream, head on over to Autoblog.

I’m usually not a fan of a company handing out free stuff. I mean, sure, people will show up to get their free hot dog with 10 gallon purchase of gas or whatever, but who really needs a three day old hot dog? In this case however, I think General Motors is really on the right track. GM is offering a year’s worth of free service (up to 4 visits) to 1999 and newer Pontiac owners in the hopes that they will visit their nearest Buick/GMC dealer and stay in the family. This plan should work well, as my very own brother owns a Pontiac Grand Prix and will be glad to have free oil changes, tire rotations and inspections of his vehicle for the next year. The Buick Regal GS Show Car is quite a shock to the system…GM, build this car!
While most in the industry believe GM will build the car pictured above, GM is still saying it is in the process of studying the market and customer interest. Right. The car is based on the 2011 Buick Regal, and is called the Regal GS. Anyway, enjoy the pictures and make sure you head on out to the Detroit Auto Show to check out this car!
Cadillac XTS, GMC Granite and Chevy Aveo RS all to be revealed at NAIAS!

According to GM’s vice president of communications, Chris Preuss, General Motors has some pretty big concepts to unveil at this years Detroit Auto Show. The Cadillac XTS will be shown as the replacement for the ages old DTS sedan. GMC will be showing the Granite off as the sibling to the Chevrolet Orlando, both built on the new Delta platform. Chevrolet will be showing off the new Aveo RS, supposedly more shapely than the current Aveo. Buick will also have a high performance version of the 2011 Regal, so stay tuned for more news from the 2010 North American International Auto Show. For now, head on over to Autoblog.

Buick hopes to lower its average buyer age from 70 to…anything lower

The average age of a new car buyer today is 52. The average age of a Buick buyer? 70! Buick is hoping to lower that number, and it needs to in order to compete with rivals Lexus and Acura. The first step in a younger direction was the 2010 LaCrosse. The average age for the sharp looking new sedan is 55, 15 years below Buick’s average but still older than Brian Sweeney likes. Sweeney is Buick/GMC’s new division manager, and he’s hoping to lower the age even more with the new 2011 Buick Regal. Their hope is that by using “experimental marketing” they will be able to attract an even younger crowd to Buick. For more details, head on over to Autoblog.

GM increases incentives to help dealers move out leftover Saturns and Pontiacs

General Motors is pushing close to $7,000 at dealers in order to move the remaining Saturn and Pontiac models sitting on dealer lots. The move comes as GM was forced to close down 4 brands (Hummer, Saab, Saturn and Pontiac) leaving only GMC, Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet left. Sales of the Saturn and Pontiac brands were down sharply this year, which is to be expected, I mean, who would really want to buy a brand that will no longer be around come spring of 2010? For more details, head on over to MSNBC.

According to reports coming from Dagens Industri in Sweden, GM has some ideas for Saab even as it closes the brand down. Rumor has it that General Motors is considering bringing the completed 9-5 here and badging it a Buick. This would make complete sense to me, as the 9-5 has been finished and is (according to insiders) a very impressive looking sedan. Only time will tell however, so stay tuned for more news. Until then, head on over to Autoblog for more details.

GM to offer test drives at the North American International Auto Show!

General Motors has some extra room this year at the Detroit Auto Show since Saturn, Pontiac and Saab will not be there, so it has decided to do something innovative. The General will offer test drives at the show for the nearly 1 million people who will come through the show this January. With sales down in 2009, automakers are trying to figure out anything they can do to boost sales. This will give potential customers the opportunity to try out one of the many new cars from GM and then talk to sales people on the show floor! For more details, head on over to the Detroit News.

GM to show several interesting new concepts at the Detroit Auto Show

The Chevy Orlando has been a stunning concept ever since it debuted almost a year ago. Well word has come out that GM will show a concept of the GMC version to be called Granite. That’s not all, Buick will reportedly show off a high performance version of the 2011 Buick Regal! Hopefully it has some form of sporty like the Opel Insignia on which it is based.
