Advertising Age reviews the story behind the Volt’s price!

More Volt related news…get used to it, the car is still over a year away from production. Anyway, this actually turned out to be a fairly interesting article on the story behind the Volt and how it’s costs have gone well above initial estimates. It also has some insight from the man behind the Volt, non other than Maximum Bob Lutz. Click here…no wait…click here…no…not yet…now click hereto visit AdAge and read the full story.

I am a big fan of the styling of the Chevy Orlando concept that debuted last year at the Paris Motor Show. It is a very fresh take on the small wagon, currently held in Chevrolet’s lineup by the HHR. When pressed about powertrains on GM-Volt.com, Bob Lutz reportedly admitted that they were studying the possibility of putting the Volt’s unique powertrain into the Chevy Orlando. This would allow GM to sell the Voltec technology to people requiring more than a 4 passenger vehicle like in the Volt. We’ll keep you posted in the following months as more and more details begin to emerge about the Volt and it’s Delta platform offspring.

If you’re anything like me, you have been craving the CTS coupe since it first debuted as a concept at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2008. Now word has come down from retired-now-hired Bob Lutz that the coupe will be available in V series trim. That means the 556 hp 6.2 liter supercharged V8 found in the sedan version of the CTS will be available in the coupe!

In its restructuring, GM decided to kill off Pontiac, taking the G8 with it. Initial plans were to not rebadge the G8 as a Chevy, but the latest news is that Bob Lutz (he’s back!) wants to bring it back as the Chevy Caprice.
The Chevy Caprice already exists in the middle east and is also built on the same platform as the G8 (Holden Commodore). This means that it shouldn’t be much work to rebadge the vehicle as a Chevy in the US. Let’s hope this news holds true because the G8 is an awesome car!

Maximum Bob Lutz does care about the Volt, he really does!

In what seems like no surprise to me, Bob Lutz has come out and said that the Chevy Volt “is the most exciting program I have worked on in my entire career.” Now that’s saying something! What brought on this declaration from Maximum Bob? Well, apparently an article in The Washington Post suggests that Lutz and the rest of GM’s management are conflicted by the desire to build gas-guzzling muscle cars while also appeasing the environmentalists and the federal government.
For all of the details, head on over to GM Fastlane Blog.
Bob Lutz was on David Letterman’s show last week and he told it like it is in regards to the Chevy Volt. And he did it all without slandering Tesla Motors (the same cannot be said for Elon Musk at what he said about GM; see original post). Take a look at the video of Lutz on Letterman.

Bob Lutz
That’s right folks, GM’s Vice Chairman for Global Product Development since 2001, Mr. Lutz will be retiring at the end of 2009. He has been instrumental in bringing products like the Cadillac CTS, Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac Solstice and G8, and Saturn Sky to market, as well as being the driving force behind the Chevrolet Volt.
