In the midst of revealing the new 2011 Ford Explorer, Alan Mulally stopped by to talk Ford with Jim Cramer. Jim asks Alan about all of the happenings at Ford, what Ford has been doing to get out of the economic hole and what it’s doing to continue the upward momentum. What a great interview – take a look at the video.
Ford revealed the new 2011 Explorer yesterday throughout the US – from Venice Beach in Los Angeles, to Detroit (D-town!), and to New York City!
The new Explorer looks awesome – inside you’ll find a beautifully crafted and supple interior and outside you’ll find an exciting and sporty exterior. The vehicle comes with features galore, including an optional 4-cylinder, 2.0 liter, Ecoboost engine which will offer a 30% fuel economy improvement over the outgoing model’s V6. It even has an exclusive Terrain Management system which allows you to easily dial-in which type of terrain you’re traversing.
Ford setup a website for the new Explorer, and you can price yours out here.
I built mine in black, with a black grill, sweet! I outfitted mine with 20″ chrome rims, crossbars for my skis, and dual headrests LCD screens with all of the connection goodies so that I can hook up my PC and play Starcraft 2 while being chauffeured through the Rocky Mountains. Yes!

Alan Mulally, Ford’s CEO, announces 1,200 new jobs at Chicago Assembly Plant to build the next generation Ford Explorer.

Analysts are predicting that Ford Motor Company could post a net income of $2.65 billion, even after one of the worst automotive markets in 27 years. This after the automaker has managed to avoid both a government handout and bankruptcy, unlike its two Detroit rivals. While CEO Alan Mulally says they aren’t out of the woods yet, things are looking up much quicker than many on Wallstreet predicted. For more details, head on over to Bloomberg.

Bloomberg focuses on Ford’s Man of the Year, Alan Mulally!

OK, so there isn’t an award for being the man of the year at Ford Motor Company, but if they did have one, Alan Mulally would have won in 2009. And 2008. And probably 2007 as well. Mulally is the CEO of Ford and is responsible for the remarkable turnaround that allowed Ford to avoid bankruptcy, turn down government bailout funds, and increase annual market share for the first time since 1995. Bloomberg details how Mulally has become a star of sorts in Detroit, and to read the full article, click here.

Alan Mulally hasn’t made a statement that he intends to step down as Ford’s CEO but already the speculation has begun. Mulally first arrived on the scene in 2006 and Ford was not in good shape. Their products were so-so and their corporate mindset was even worse. Now in 2009 he has managed to completely transform their product lineup and re-energize the workforce into believing in a common goal. So who could we see as the next in line? Well the names being tossed around are Mark Fields, Jim Farley, Lewis Booth and Joe Heinrich. For more on the story, head on over to The Detroit Free Press.

2010 Ford Taurus named Official Car of the Consumer Electronics Show

The 2010 Ford Taurus has won several awards already. It was named Esquire magazine’s car of the year. Now it has been named the Official Car of the Consumer Electronics Show. I am not really surprised by this announcement. I mean, Alan Mulally, Ford’s CEO, was named as the keynote speaker for this years CES. Not to mention the Taurus is packed with tons of technology that you just can’t find in other cars, let alone at the price the Taurus is available at. Advertising Age names Jim Farley as their number 10 Power Player!

Man, two big names at Ford are being presented with two fairly big awards! First came news that Alan Mulally was named the 2010 Man of the Year by Automobile magazine. Now comes word that Jim Farley, Ford’s Group Vice President of Global Marketing, has been named the number 10 Power Player by Advertising Age. No wonder Ford has had such a positive swing as we near the end of 2009. They didn’t take a government bailout, they didn’t file for bankruptcy, and their latest round of marketing is top notch. Take the Drive One ads for example. Real people, talking about their own personal cars. Gotta love it! Congratulations Jim!
