Details have begun to surface on the 2011 Mustang GT, or more specifically the new powertrain that will be available.  The 3.7L V6 was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in December, and now it appears that an updated V8 is in the cards too.  The new engine will displace 5.0L and is expected to produce 412 horsepower!  For more details head on over to Inside Line.

UPDATE!  Autoweek has apparently decided to release more details on the 2011 Mustang GT 5.0L V8.  The peak torque of 390 lb-ft arrives at 6,500 rpm, and the engine features twin independent cam timing, 4 valves per cylinder, and your choice of a six-speed manual or automatic.  This combination will reportedly offer up 25 mpg on the highway.  For more, head on over to Autoweek.

2011 Mustang 37L V6

2010 saw an overall update of the Ford Mustang.  It received new exterior sheetmetal, as well as an upgraded interior, that brought the car really up to world class standards.  However, the powertrains were mostly carry-over from the 2009 model.  That changes come this spring, when the 2011 Mustang V6 rolls into showrooms.  It features Ford’s 3.7L V6, good for 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.  This engine isn’t just about power though, it was designed with fuel efficiency in mind as well.  Ford estimates that the engine will be good for 30 mpg, making it the most fuel efficient car in its class.  For more details, head on over to Autoblog.

2010 Ford Mustang

So it appears that more news on the 2011 Ford Mustang has leaked via the interwebs (shocker!) and the news is pretty good.  Mention of 6 speed transmissions, 19-inch wheels along with Brembo brakes and several other goodies brings tears of joy to my eyes.  It’s good to see Ford updating their beloved pony car yet again even though the stunning new body and interior were just released for the 2010 model year.  The official details on the 2011 Mustang will be revealed at the LA Auto Show in December.  For more information, head on over to Autoblog.

It appears as though Ford is getting ready to show the new engine and transmission offerings to the world at the LA Auto Show this December.  How do we know?  Well, the gang over at Autoblog was able to ask Derrick Kuzak himself while taping a show for FoxNews.com.  Check out the rest of the story at Autoblog, and stay tuned for any updates!

According to a source on The Mustang Source the Mustang is in for some serious upgrades in 2011.  Who knows if any of the information is correct, but here’s to hoping it is!  They are calling for a 315 hp 3.7L V6 in the base car, with the GT getting a 5.0L V8 and 400 or so hp.  That is really impressive.  They continue with the details, laying out the foundation for the 2011 GT500 as well as a special edition in 2012 called “The Boss.”  Stay tuned right here for the latest news on the Mustang and the rest of the Domestics, and for full details, head on over to The Mustang Source.

C&D runs into 2011 Mustang mule with supercar tires…

Car & Driver magazine went down to GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan and they just so happened to run into some Ford engineers there testing some pre-production 2011 Mustangs.  The car featured adjustable shocks, which C&D feels are probably just for development, but the car was also wearing Pirelli P Zero Corsa R-compounds, the same tires found on a stock Lamborghini LP560-4.

The writers also said the car was able to keep up on the 1.88 mile long track with a BMW M3 that had been brought along by the Ford engineers.  Autoblog’s only reasoning behind this is that the car had to feature around 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, which they attribute to a new 5.0 L V8, 32 valve DOHC “Coyote” motor that has been rumored.  For all of the details, head over to Car & Driver.
